We have a construction permit! It took us 13 long months, but we finally got the right set of plans and approval from the city of Bradenton to rehab the house and transform it into a small public art center. Construction begins this week. First order of business? Demo the existing bathroom and extend it into an existing closet in order to gain space to accommodate an ADA bathroom. The contractors will also remove the termite-ridden back porch and start prepping that area for the ADA ramp.
The ADA features are both required by law for a commercial building, and a huge part of the overall vision for the ReWorked Creations art center. The Village of the Arts is an amazing neighborhood with wonderful studios and galleries, but few are truly accessible for those of us with mobility challenges. There are live/work galleries that I would love to visit, but walk by (pushing my trusty rollator) due to steps and other barriers. It is my hope that ReWorked Creations will provide an artful experience within the Village for those, like myself, who rely on some form of wheeled assistance or other walking aids.
Let the rehab begin.
